GSK was formed following the unification of Glaxo Wellcome – formed

in London during 1880 by the two American Pharmacists Henry Wellcome
and Silas Burroughs. Wellcome Tropical Research Laboratories was
launched in 1902 followed by taking over of McDougall & Robertson
Inc for becoming more active in animal healthcare.
The manufacturing plant was then shifted from New York to North
Carolina during 1970 which was followed by setting up of another
research center. Glaxo was founded in Bunnythorpe, New Zealand which
was initially the baby food producing and processing local milk into
the early baby food under the very name which was ultimately sold
out during 1930s marking the most popular punch-line ‘Glaxo builds
bonny babies’. Glaxo became Glaxo Laboratories and started new
plants in London in 1935 and bought two companies named Joseph
Nathan and Allen & Hanburys during 1947 and 1958 respectively.
Following the purchase of Meyer Laboratories, the company initiated
playing the significant role in the US markets. During 2006 the
pharmaceutical sales reached the mark of £20.08 billion which is
